Opening Reception: Phase Change - Works in Glass by C. Matthew
Szosz
In celebration of New Albany’s history as the site
of the first plate glass to be manufactured in the United States,
the Carnegie Center for Art & History is presenting Phase Change,
an exhibition of works in glass by C. Matthew Szösz. Szösz states:
“My work is created by employing ready-made material, most often
common window glass, as a tool for the investigation of material
behavior. It is heated to a point of flexibility, subjected to acute
force, and quickly solidified. The resulting forms are created
partly by my manipulation, and partly by the physical response of
the glass to stresses placed on it. In this way, the works are
partnerships between the glass and myself - a carefully planned and
assembled experiment is prepared, and then submitted to physics for
sudden, violent, often unpredicted results.” |

its only annual fundraiser, the always outrageous Pajama Party.
As one of Louisville's most exciting charitable events, the Pajama
Party is a night of spectacular entertainment, outstanding cuisine,
and great fun. In the spirit of collaboration, this year ICAF is
again embracing our local arts community and sharing the spotlight
with six local organizations, specially chosen for their unique
enrichment to our community. Rather than pay a set ticket price,
party-goers are encouraged to donate early and often, in hopes
that the PJ party will not only bring awareness, but also help
fund the smaller organizations that we're so fortunate to have
in our local community.

Workshop with Scott Darlington: Illustrate Your Life
in Glass
$1,000
Demo in morning, lunch, afternoon 9-5
Requirement: 1 year or more of hot glass experience.
In this intermediate to advanced class students will be encouraged
to illustrate their lives in glass. We will draw from other interests
and parts of our lives besides art and glass to influence our ideas
and concepts. Technically, this class will explore the logic and
physics of glassmaking. We will not be making vessels but we will
use the bubble sculpturally. This class will also cover solid and
core sculpting, bit work, common and special situation punties, and
garage work. We will learn how to draw and disect objects in order
to be able to make parts and assemble pieces into the final object.
Glass can be anything and that is just what we will make. Register

New Boundaries

5-day class, intermediate level
Australian Benjamin Edols is a highly accomplished glassblower and
has worked with Dante Marioni and Lino Tagliapietra over the years.
Ben's personal practice tries to marry his interest in nature with
a 20 plus year fascination with process. Cane work such as filigrana,
murrini, reticellos and zanfirico continue to challenge and excite.
Demonstrations will focus on this type of pattern making while at
the same time always pushing to take them somewhere new. Students will
have the afternoons to create and discover new boundaries for their
work.
